From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could enable the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.
Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
